What electrical plugs are used in Vietnam and what adapters do you need?
In Vietnam, the most commonly used power plugs and sockets (outlets) are type A, type B, or, C and type D. The standard electricity voltage is 220 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.

What is the standard voltage in Vietnam?
In Vietnam, the standard voltage is 110 / 220 V at a frequency of 50 Hz. However, what does this means based on voltage and frequency?
If your device shown the variety of ranges from “100-240, 50-60Hz”, it simply means your device is readily compatible with all the different voltages anywhere in South-East of Asia and in Vietnam. To use it, make sure the plug is also compatible.
Are devices with 110 Volts work in Vietnam?
If you’re from North or Central America or Japan, your devices use 110 volts, which is different from the electricity system in Vietnam. Check the back of your devices for labels like “100-240V, 50-60Hz.” If you see this, you can use your devices with the correct plug. Otherwise, you’ll need a transformer to convert the voltage from 110V to the 220V used in Vietnam.

Type A socket has two flat pins that are parallel or slightly angled. It is commonly used in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Japan. The newer version of this socket has an enlarged zero pin, preventing you from plugging it in the wrong way. This type of outlet is widely used in Vietnam.
Can I use Type B plugs in Vietnam?
Type B socket: This socket can be used in Vietnam – is similar to Type A but includes an additional round grounding pin that is longer than the other two. It is commonly used in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Japan. You’ll be able to use your device using this socket.
Can I use Type C plugs in Vietnam?
Type C socket: This socket has two round pins, either 4mm or 4.8mm in diameter. Known as the Euro plug, it is used in many European countries, including the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. You’ll find this type of socket anywhere in Vietnam, it’s basically the most commonly used one.
Can I use Type E/F plugs in Vietnam?
Type E/F sockets: Also known as the Schuko, this socket has two round pins, each 4.8mm in diameter, and features either two grounding clips on the sides or a round hole for grounding. It is commonly used in many European countries, including the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. You’ll find this type of socket in northern Vietnam, especially in Hanoi.
Can I use Type G plugs in Vietnam?
If you’re from the UK, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Malaysia, Singapore, or Hong Kong, you might be able to use type G plugs (British) with 3 rectangular pins in some places in Vietnam. However, this is less common nowadays, and you’ll usually need an adapter.
Can I use Type I plugs in Vietnam?
Type I plugs are not compatible in Vietnam. If you’re from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, or southern part of China, you’ll need an adapter to convert your type I plug into tyre C in order to be able to use it in Vietnam.
