If you are looking for a quiet and tranquil trip in Vietnam, Lang Co beach is an ideal vacation destination. The beach is located north of Da Nang approximately 25 miles from international airport. Lang Co is an island with white sandy beaches that stretch over 6 miles surrounded by palm trees and a beautiful turquoise lagoon. A Relaxing Holiday to Lang Co Beach, Vietnam

The weather in Lang Co Beach is divided into 2 seasons. Dry season is from March to August, and is the peak tourist season. If you like swimming, diving and snorkeling the dry season is the perfect time for you to take a relaxing vacation. The average water depth is less than 3 feet and the temperature is a perfect 77°F, not to hot and not to cool. The beach has a very distinctive clean and pristine beauty to it. When the sun shines over the beach, it looks as if thousands of sparkling diamonds are hidden beneath the white sands as far as the eye can see.

After a whole day sunbathing on the beach, swimming and getting a nice tan, I enjoyed my dinner at a local beach side restaurant. Since the beach is a popular destination for diving and snorkeling there are many incredible gourmet seafood restaurants located near the beach. You are free to make your own meal as you choose from various varieties of shrimp, lobster, fish, crab and oysters. I enjoyed some beautiful dishes that words alone can not give adequate representation to their delicious mouth watering flavor. Grilled prawns were my favorite dish and only under the talented hands of the master chefs here, could I enjoy their amazing taste while relaxing in the ocean breeze near the beach.

On my second day at Lang Co, I decided to visit a fishing village called: An Cu Dong, which roughly translates to, “A good place for settlement in the East”. In 1916, King Khai Dinh passed by Lang Co Bay and was amazed by its beauty; hence he decided to build a vacation place here. Since then, Lang Co bay has always been an attractive destination on travel map. As we visited the fishing village, our guide brought us to the oldest man on the island and he told us stories about the village. “This village was started 250 years ago and inside the village you can see many landmarks such as the hundred-year-old communal houses, the Nguyen dynasty ferry and the stone from the reign of King Khai Dinh praising the beauty of the village”, he quietly stated. Local people rely mainly on fishing for their livelihood here at Lang Co bay.

I noticed a young woman who was leisurely sewing a net on the beach who every so often took a long look to an old boat on the beach. I asked a local what she kept looking at and was informed that she was looking for his husband. I went closer and politely asked what she was looking for; she shared with us “Here, every fisherman has divided the sea into different partitions and he is only allowed to fish at his own area, that’s why you can see my husband never roams too far from here, he is over there”, she said as she pointed at a man who was standing on the front of a small boat. Like other fisher-families from Quang Binh province, her husband uses “Vo” for fishing. “Vo” is a net which has 4 corners secured with bamboo sticks; a fisherman will place “vo” in area he believes that fish will swim over the most.

From the island, “vo” looks like a small floating-house. Although, the young lady seemed have a tough life netting all day, I could see the happiness on her face as she watched her husband work. I decided to ask her how good business was for her and her husband and she responded with a smile and said, ”We always appreciate the wealthiness and generosity of this land, as you can see, we don’t have a high living standard, but we are happy with what we have, I love my idyllic and peaceful life with my man and how could I ever wish for something more”. This reminded me of an old proverb which goes “Happiness can’t be measured by how much money you have in your pocket, if you can be happy with what you have, you will be the happiest person in the world”.

The beach has been recognized by World Bays as one of the 26 most beautiful bays in the world; and when visiting, I can easily see why. I believe Lang Co is a wonderful and peaceful place for a private tour with your loved ones. I am already looking forward to my next visit when I’ll try some more adventurous activities like diving and wind-surfing.

My short holiday to Central Vietnam was an enjoyable one and I loved relaxing on the beaches and talking with the locals, I even learned a valuable lesson about the value of life from local people here and how to see happiness through their eyes.
